The Best Franchisee of the World (BFW) Award is the holy grail of industry awards within the franchise industry. It is a prize awarded to the best franchisees in the world. Therefore, when Omar Yunes won it in 2015 during a gala organized in Florence, Italy, it marked a significant milestone for the relatively young entrepreneur and Sushi Itto franchise owner in Mexico. Having won the Mexican franchisee award, the global title was a befitting award for Mr. Yunes who started out as a franchise owner as a 21-year old enthusiastic entrepreneur. He has built his sushi business empire from the ground up and currently runs 13 franchise units operating in three Mexican cities. With his 13 units, Omar Yunes currently runs 10 percent of all Sushi Itto’s franchise units.
During the ceremony attended by Benjamin Cancelmo who is the chief executive officer at Sushi Itto, Omar Yunes’ excellent and innovative management approaches were applauded. He has not only transformed the sometimes difficult relationship between franchisors and franchisees; he also introduced innovative franchise management practices that have seen his over 400 employees remain highly motivated. This has translated into excellent service delivery, which was also applauded by Mr. Cancelmo. He has consequently played a key role in improving Sushi Itto’s brand through the new management initiatives he has introduced at the units he runs.
